The Carrom Association of the Maldives is proud to announce two prestigious sporting events to be held in Male, the capital of the Republic of the Maldives. The world’s greatest carom players will compete in the 15th SAARC Carrom Championship, including the national teams of India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bhutan, May 28–30, 2011, at the Carrom Association of the Maldives (CAM) Hall.
Several other Asian teams will join this elite group for the 4th Asian Carrom Championship, June 1–4, 2011, also to be held in CAM Hall. Both Men’s and Women’s World Champions and 2010 World Cup winners will be in attendance, along with National Champions of all participating nations, making this the #1 carom event of 2011.
Events include Men’s and Women’s Team Championship, Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. All events are conducted under the authority of the Asian Carrom Confederation (ACC) and will be adjudicated in accordance with the current Laws of the International Carrom Federation (ICF). Live and recorded video programming will be available for distribution via air broadcast and the Internet.

INDIA CLAIMS SEVEN GOLD MEDALS IN SAARC CARROM CHAMPIONSHIP

14th SAARC Championship 2010

Results

COLOMBO: 31 JULY:  Indian carrom players claimed seven Gold Medals, two Silver Medals and one Bronze Medal in the 14th SAARC Countries Carrom Championship concluded at Hotel Galadari, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Five countries i.e. India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives and Bangladesh participated in three days championship. Nepal could not make it at the last minute. Three men and three women players from each country participated in seven different events of the SAARC Championship.

 

Yogesh Pardeshi of India, who is also the current World Champion, annexed Men Singles title defeating B. Radhakrishnan of India in straight games 25-16, 25-3. Prakash Gaikwad of India secured third position defeating Sherifddin of Sri Lanka easily 25-5, 25-4. In the semi-finals, Radhakrishnan overcame Prakash Gaikwad 25-23, 25-10 while Yogesh prevailed over Sherifddin 25-6, 25-2. Defending champion, Hidayat Ansari of India could not make it to the Indian team.

 

Current Women World Champion & defending champion, I. Ilavazhaki claimed Women Singles title defeating Kavita Somanchi of India in a well contested match 25-24, 25-11.  Roshita Joseph of Sri Lanka secured third position defeating Aisath Fainaz of Maldives 25-19, 25-00. Both Indian players overpowered their opponents very easily in the Semi-finals. Kavita beat Fainaz 25-4, 25-0 and Ilavazhaki beat Rosita 25-1, 25-0.

 

In Men Doubles event, defending champion pair from India, Yogesh Pardeshi & B. Radhakrishnan defeated their traditional rivals from Sri Lanka, Chamil Cooray and Nishant Fernando 25-11, 25-14. Third position was claimed by Bangladesh pair of Mohd Ali & Hafizur Rahman defeating Maldives pair of Neesham and Hamid 25-24, 9-25, 25-24. Indian pair of I. Ilavazhaki and Rashmi Kumari, who was defending champion, won Women Doubles title when they defeated Sri Lankan pair of Roshita and Chalani 25-5, 25-4.  Aishath Fainaz & Vishama of Maldives secured third position.

 

Indian pair of Prakash Gaikwad & Kavita Somanchi claimed Gold Medal in Mixed Doubles event defeating Sri Lankan pair of Sherifddin & Madushika 25-13, 25-7.  Maldives pair of Mohd. Shafee & Aminath Nima won Bronze Medal defeating K.G.H. Kabir & Farzana Akhtar of Bangladesh 9-25, 25-23, 25-21.

 

India won both Men and Women Team events. Bangladesh surprised Sri Lanka to win the Silver Medal in the Men Team event. Sri Lanka and Maldives claimed Silver and Bronze Medals respectively in the Women team event. Prakash Gaikwad scored six Slams while Yogesh Pardeshi scored five Slams in the Championship.

 

The 14th SAARC Championship was inaugurated by C.B. Rattanaike, Sports Minister of Sri Lanka in a colourful function. He played the first knock of the Championship as well. The prizes were given away by Secretary (Sports), Government of Sri Lanka; First Secretary, Indian High Commission, R.M. Srivastava; Member of Parliament of Bangladesh, Zunaid Ahmed Palak; Secretary General, International Carrom Federation, S.K. Sharma and President, Asian Carrom Confederation, Zahir Naseer. Dr. Zahir Naseer presented cash awards to all players who scored slams and the best player from each country.

 

Indian Team was congratulated by Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, M.S. Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid who were present in Colombo for the Indo-Sri Lanka Cricket Test Series.

This championship is open to the registered Member Federations / Associations of the SAARC

countries ( i.e. India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan Afghanistan & Bhutan. )


 

Name of the Championship : 12TH SAARC Countries Carrom Championship 2008.


 

Authority : 12th SAARC Carrom countries Championship will be organised by the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka under the authority granted by the Asian Carrom Confederation.


 

Date : 11th to 13th October, 2008


 

Venue : Plam Beach Hotel, Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka.

Rules The Championship will be conducted in accordance with the current ICF Laws

of Carrom.


 

Umpiring The umpiring will be in English.


 

Eligibility Only member Federations / Associations which have paid their annual subscriptions and other dues, if any, up to and including that the year preceding the championship shall be eligible to participate.


 

Entry Each Federation / Association may enter maximum of 03 Men & 03 Women Players .

Submission of entries :

 

Entries should be submitted with two sets of entry forms duly filled and shall be returned

together with the requisite entry fees on or before the 10thOctober, 2008 to the

Organizing Secretary, Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka.

All entry forms should be signed by the President or Secretary of the nominating Federation / Association under their official seal.

 

Hospitality :

Free hospitality including local transport from 10th to 14th October, 2008, will be

provided to the players and the official listed in the official entry form and officials

and delegates invited from abroad in accordance with the rules and regulations of

the ACC. It will be 10th Oct, 12 .noon to 14th Oct, 12.00. noon 2008

 

Technical Committee :

The meeting of the Technical Committee will be held at 19.00 hours on the

10th October, 2008 at the Hotel .

 

Draw :

The draw will be conducted by the Technical Committee of the championship on the

day before the championship, commencing at 19.00 Hours, at the championship hall.

Representatives from the participating Federations / Associations may attend the draw,

with prior intimation to the Organising Secretary and the Secretary General ACC.


 

Match Schedule :

A copy of the draw and the match schedule shall be displayed on the notice board

at the venue. The organizers of the championship reserve the right to alter the

Schedule of the proposed days and times at their discretion.


 

Protest :

All protests written in English, addressed to the Organising Chairman of the

Championship shall be submitted with full particulars through the Chief Referee

within 15 minutes of the completion of that particular board with the prescribed

Scrutiny fee i.e. 50 us Dollars. If the protest is upheld, the match shall continue

from the particular board in which the protest was lodged and the scrutiny fee

shall be refunded. In case the protest is over-ruled, the result already obtained

shall stand and the scrutiny fee shall be forfeited.

 

Events and entry Fees :--


 

Entry Fees US $ 65/= per person (if participating in the ICF Cup too)

Otherwise US$150/- per person.

CARROM CHAMPIONSHIP - 2008

System of play :--


 

* Team Event :

The Team Manager / Captain shall nominate the names of the players in writing for each

match and submit the list to the Chief Referee.

 

A team shall consist of three singles matches to be played simultaneously and the winning

team shall be awarded one point.


 

All matches including the final shall be played on the basis of best of three 08 boards or 25

points, whichever comes first.


 

If there are six or less teams they will be placed in a single group and all teams will play

amongst themselves on a league basis.


 

If there are more than six teams they shall be divided into two groups A & B and the

matches shall be played on a league-cum knock-out basis.


 

In the event of a tie between two teams the team, which had won the earlier match, would

be placed higher for securing the position. If there are more than two teams having equal

points, the positions will be decided on the basis of the matches Won and Lost. If there is

a tie even at this stage, the scores for and against the teams shall be taken into account and

their positions determined.


 

Semi – Finals :-- Winner group ‘A’ Vs Runner-Up group ‘B’

Winner group ‘B’ Vs Runner-Up group ‘A’


 

Finals :-- The two Winners will play for the Semi -- 1st& 2nd Place

The two Losers will play for the Semi -- 3rd& 4thPlace

* Singles Event :--

The singles event shall be played on a League-cum Knock-out basis as decided by the

Technical Committee.

 

* Doubles and Mixed Doubles :--

The Men’s / Women’s Doubles and the Mixed Doubles events will be played on a

knock-out basis.

The players participating in the Men’s / Women’s doubles event will not be allowed to

participate in the Mixed Doubles event.


 

Awards :--

Certificates, Medals & Trophies shall be awarded to the teams / players securing the First,

Second & Third positions in the championship.


 

Equipments :--

 

“ PRECISE “ Carrom Boards and “ White Slam “ Carrommen will be used at the championship.
